Even though it is more like a giant snowfield than a glacier, it does have snow on it year round. In the late spring and early summer it is a good spot to come and escape the heat. If you come during the weekend, you are bound to find people playing on the snow. However, if you don't have the right gear be careful. People get hurt here all the time.
If you are trying to find a place to ski year round (or just looking for some snow in August). St. Mary's is the place to find it. Many people seeking the goal to ski year round in Colorado come here in August and September to get their ski in - granted it is really ugly snow at that time of the year.
