The 4-mile Fun Run and the 2-mile Walk For Fun, along with the Youth Run and Pee Wee Run, will take place in Gillson Park the morning of July 3.

There are six categories for men and women in the Fun Run contest, with awards presented in all categories. To accommodate the large number of participants, the Youth Run has been divided into three age groups-6-7, 8-9 and 10-13. Pee Wee runners are age 5 and under and do not need to register.

Awards are given in each of the children's categories. The Walk for Fun is for recreation only-no awards are presented. Early registrants receive a T-shirt. Day of the race registration opens at 7 am in Gillson Park.

The events start at 8 am, 9 am, 9:15 am, 9:30 am and 9:45 am so check the schedule, join your neighbors and friends and start off your Fourth of July weekend with a bang! Early adult registrations are $20, the day of the event the adult fee is $25. Registration for children is $10. Note: Pee Wees are 5 & under--they run for free and registration is not required.

From downtown Chicago, take Lakeshore Drive north until it become Sheridan Road. Continue north on Sheridan, past the Bahai Temple (on your left). Gillson Park is a quarter mile further north on Sheridan on the right side of the road.

This is a fairly low-key community race, but a good atmosphere! I went back and tried two different map software programs that measured the course at 4.1 miles. The course is very flat though.
