The West Virginia Mountain Trail Runners held its' first organizational meeting and adopted bylaws on January 4, 2003 in Helvetia, WV. On that date there were nineteen Charter Members. Many were old running friends, while others were new acquaintances. The idea of forming the WVMTR actually began in 1999, but like many notions, it took a while to become a reality. Our members are from across WV and other states.

The objective of the club is to promote running. We do this by holding races, non-competitive club runs, social events, assisting other organizations with running events, and in general just running around having fun. We are a non-profit organization affiliated with the American Association of Running Clubs.

Our Board of Directors consists of a President, Vice President/Treasurer, and Secretary. Meetings are at a minimum quarterly and oddly coincide with a run of some sort. Membership is open to any interested runner.
