This is a run from Schultz Tank Trailhead up the Weatherford Trail to Doyle Saddle, high atop the San Francisco Peaks. This run is also a favorite unofficial trail race for many Flagstaff runners that is held the first Sunday in October at 9 AM. First run in 1981, as an organized trail race with Nike and Coors as sponsors, it has gone through potential defenestration, but still survives! Over 30 runners usually eschew the St. George Marathon and other events to get back to trail running roots at the Wardog. It is also a great final training run for the Soulstice Mountain Trail race held two weeks later.
Drive north from Flagstaff and turn right on Schultz Pass Road. Follow Schultz Pass Road (bearing to left at junction with Elden Lookout Road) and once the pavement turns to dirt it is about 4.5 miles to the trailhead.
