Just outside the "The Fastest Ice on Earth" sits what we hope will become "The Fastest Indoor Track on Earth." This beautiful 442-meter Mondo Super X track circles the oval with four lanes of the best running surface under your feet possible. The front straightaway features an eight-lane, 110-meter sprint zone. Regardless of the season, runners train in a climate-controlled environment, averaging 63-65 degrees year-round.

Athletes can also run instead of skate in circles at the Utah Olympic Oval. Runners have the opportunity to train on the 442-meter indoor track that surrounds the Oval speed skating ice dubbed as "The Fastest Ice On Earth" where eight world and 10 Olympic records were set in February 2002. A Mondo Super X track has been installed with four lanes around the ice plus an eight-lane, 110-meter sprint zone. The track has been marked according to NCAA and IAAF standards.

The facility has tremendous potential as a winter training ground for recreational runners as well as high school and college track and field athletes. They can run in a climate-controlled temperature of 63-65 degrees. The Oval is one of the rare indoor track facilities in the state, providing year-round training capabilities.

The track is open to recreational and competitive runners for a $2 admission or a 10-time pass for $18 and a 20-time pass for $32. Jogging strollers are allowed on the track on the outside lane. Cleats of any kind are not allowed on the track.

The Utah Olympic Oval hosted five high school or collegiate track meets in its first season (2002-03 winter). The University of Utah track and field team used the facility for training three times a week during the winter season. "The 442-meter length is unheard of and the mondo surface makes the track so fast," said Utah high school coach and meet coordinator Clay Twigg. "I think it's one of the top five fastest tracks in the country, if not the fastest. I guarantee that it's the fastest track in Utah."
