The UC Davis Arboretum has a 2-3 mile running loop, mostly paved but with a few dirt sections, that encircles a quiet creek. A wide variety of plant species, labeled by habitat type, lines both sides of the path and offers plenty to look at while you run. There are also many different types of waterfowl that live in and around the arb, including an adundance of ducks, which sometimes sit right on the path itself and are not scared away easily by runners. The scenery and the shade provided by the trees make the UC Davis Arb a good place to add a few miles to a run. Also a good place to warm-up before a track workout - the UC Davis track is less than a 1/2 mile away. Lots more information is available at the arb's website: http://arboretum.ucdavis.edu/
Exit I-80 at Richards Blvd., and turn west towards downtown Davis. Turn left onto 1st St. and drive 4 blocks to A St. The UC Davis Arboretum is on your left. If you start here, you are on the northeast side of the loop.
