The Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women has its origins in 1977, when it was known as the Bonnie Belle Mini Marathon. It was one of a series of 12 races for women that were held across the country.

In 1978, the race moved to the Boston Common and the course was certified on its present route. The course was re-certified each year in the late 1980s due to repairs and restructuring of the Massachusetts Avenue bridge.

In 1987, the start line was also moved from Charles Street to its present location on Beacon Street after the construction of a traffic island caused course interference. In 2000, the Tufts Health Plan 10K again held the title of the largest women's only 10K in the nation for the fourth consecutive year with 6,537 registered runners.

In addition to the runners, the race draws nearly 20,000 spectators. These include husbands, boyfriends, fathers, mothers, children, friends and companions who gather to watch and cheer the runners and participate in the activities on the Boston Common.

You will seed yourself race day by your best-estimated time per mile for this 10K course (6.2 miles). Accuracy of this estimate will help ensure your safe completion in this race.

Six water stations. Three aid stations. Split times will be given at each mile.

For your convenience, a Baggage Claim area will be set-up on the Boston Common from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on race day. Race management will not be held responsible for lost or stolen articles. All baggage must be claimed by 2 p.m. on race day.

Boston Common. The start is on Beacon Street, and the finish is on Charles Street between the Public Gardens and Boston Common.
