Walk, Run, Roll or Stroll . . .
Everybody Wins at United Way?s Human Race!
ASHEVILLE? On April Fool?s Day people from across our community will walk and run for a stronger community, and that?s no joke. United Way is looking for runners, walkers and rollers to participate in The Human Race, an annual 5k walk/run to raise money for our community?s nonprofits. Scheduled for April 1st, the event will be held at UNC-Asheville?s Karl Strauss Track from 9 am through noon.
This community event promises to be invigorating for the whole family, while offering support to the vital work of area nonprofits. In addition to the 5k walk run, participants will be entertained by the music of Peggy Ratusz and the Daddy Long Legs Band. Youth activities include face painting, balloon animals, a bubble station, plus fun & games provided by Cardio Kids, and Project POWER AmeriCorps. All kids? events are free of charge.
Businesses, individuals, and organizations may recruit walkers, rollers and runners to participate in the 5K to raise funds for their favorite participating nonprofit organization; the designated nonprofit organizations receive 100% of the money collected.
The Human Race course winds through the UNCA campus and the adjacent Botanical Gardens. Wheelchairs, strollers and wagons are welcome ? but no bikes, scooters or inline skates, please. Dogs must be kept on a leash and are not allowed in the Botanical Gardens portion of the course. In case of rain, the event will take place in UNCA?s Health & Fitness Center.
Contact United Way?s Volunteer Center at 255-0696 or visit www.unitedwayabc.org and click on the 2006 Human Race to find out how to participate. Any nonprofit group is eligible to register and receive funds. ?Nonprofit? is defined as any tax-exempt group organized for religious, educational, or charitable purposes. Anyone is eligible to participate in the race itself and may collect money for a registered nonprofit organization.
United Way?s Human Race brings people together to help celebrate and continue the good work of local nonprofit organizations and is a fun way to emphasize community and health. United Way?s Volunteer Center of Asheville and Buncombe County is a community service of the United Way.
The Human Race will take place on the campus of The University of North Carolina at Asheville, which is located north of downtown Asheville NC. The campus can be reached easily from US 40, US 26/19/23/70 or US 25.
