Mud Island Park is sandwiched between upscale Harbortown houses and the Mississippi River in Memphis. There is a sidewalk on the west side of Mud Island Road, but I prefer to run on the wide strip of grass immediately adjacent to the river. The footing is good, and it is totally flat. It is about 1.5 miles from the parking lot on the north end to the parking lot on the south end. The scenery along the River is beautiful and frequently you can witness large barges moving cargo up and down the Mississippi. As you run south, you have a great view of the bridge on I-40 between Tennessee and Arkansas and also a great view of the Pyramid and downtown Memphis (particularly if you run over the Auction Avenue bridge). From downtown Memphis, take Front Street north to Auction Avenue. Turn left and go up and over the bridge to get to Mud Island/Harbortown. Turn right once you have cross the bridge, and the park is immediately on your left, next to the River.
