The Mt Hood PCT ultra is an out and back on the beautiful Pacific Crest trail. The 50M race heads all the way from Timothy lake to Timberline lodge on Mt Hood (and back). A shorter 50K turnaround is at Wapinitia pass.

This is a very popular run with out of state runners and part of the Oregon Trail Ultra series.

Course description: Straight out and back. Both distances follow the same course which is north on the Pacific Crest Trail from Timothy Lake Area to Mt Hood Timberline Lodge for the 50 Milers or 1.5 miles past Wapinitia Pass for the 50K race. It is 99% on the PCT, very shaded, a few road crossings and about half the distance has roots and rocks. The other half is fast with good footing. 5000ft climb for 50 mile and 2000+ft climb for 50K. Course is not certified but distances are accurate within ? Forest Service Mile. Course closes by 6:30pm.

The race starts and finishes at the Clackamas Ranger station which is close to Timothy lake. Timothy lake is located in Oregon, about 20 miles south of Mt. Hood.

To get to the start, take Hwy 26 towards Mt Hood. For out of town people getting to HWY 26 can be the hardest part. If you are coming from the airport click here for detailed instruction.

Drive past Government Camp and continue south on Hwy26 ten miles past Hwy35/Hwy26 intersection to Hwy42 (also marked as Skyline Rd and Timothy Lake). The Hwy 42 turn off is close to the 66 mile mark on Hwy 26. The ranger station is 10 miles down Hwy42, 1/4 mile past Hwy42/Hwy57 intersection on Hwy42.
