The Mount Vernon Heritage Days 5k winds through historic Mount Vernon, Iowa. The 5k is part of the town's yearly Heritage Day Festival. The course begins on the old Lincoln Highway bridge, just west of the Cornell College track. Most of the 5k is over rolling hills, but there is one steep uphill just before the 2-mile mark. The hills and the heat and humidity are the biggest challenges, but the fast finish on the Cornell College track makes up for it! This is a fun local race with approximately 150 runners. Before you leave, check out the Heritage Days festivities, including local artists, food vendors, rides, and live music.

The town of Mount Vernon is located about 15 minutes east of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and about 30 minutes north of Iowa City. Race registration takes place at the Cornell College track on the northwest side of the town. The athletic facility is located at 600 First Street SW.
