Starting out at the trailhead at 7,000 feet, this long and challenging ascent climbs to 10,378 with an option to go higher. (the junction of La Luz and Spur Trail 84, you can choose to go left to the Sandia Crest House, the highest point in the Sandias at 10,678 feet.) See map for more detail.

This is a very serious round trip; plan appropriately, bring water, know that you are going to go for a hard, uphill run that averages 12% grade!!!

This is also the site of the annual La Luz Trail Race hosted by the Albuquerque Road Runners:

From Albequerque, Take Tramway to the Juan Tabo turnoff. Turn right and follow signs to the parking area. There is a parking fee of $3 per car.
