The month of May will begin with a roar when up to 30,000 runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes cross the start line at the 28th Indianapolis Life 500 Festival Mini-Marathon. The nation's largest half-marathon takes participants on a scenic 13.1-mile tour of downtown Indianapolis, Indiana, and a unique lap around the world-famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval.

The course for the Mini-Marathon begins near the intersection of Washington Street and West Street, heads west toward the Indianapolis Motor Speedway along Michigan St. and now does a complete lap around the Track before heading back down to the same finish line as in years past.

Forget trying to seriously run this race if you start in the middle of the pack.

It will take you 20 minutes just to reach the start line and all day long there will be slow people shoulder to shoulder blocking you from running your desired pace...especially if you've paced yourself right and are ready to pick up your pace after the first 7 or 8 miles or so.

People ahead of you who when out too fast at the start and now dying on their feet will make this an obstacle course and add about 1/2 mile to the length of the the race if you try to dodge between them to hold your pace.
