Well maintained trails and old jeep roads, great multi-season, multi-use (bikes, x-c skiing, snow shoeing, hiking, running) area. Wear an orange vest if you run out here in November, deer hunting is allowed.
Go East on Rt. 13 out of Ithaca. About 5 miles east of the NYSEG building turn south from Rt. 13 onto Irish Settlement Rd. Turn left onto Star Stanton Rd., about 3 miles from Rt. 13. Follow Star Stanton, bearing right at the Y, and head up hill. Parking lot is at the top of the hill, on the right, just before a significant downhill. Here on finds miles of jeep roads and trails. There are typically DEC trail brochures available at the trail register (across the road). Colored trail blazes mark some of the more prominent trails.

Hammond Hill was established as a state forest between 1935 and 1950 in an effort to reduce soil erosion, produce forest products, and provide recreational opportunities. Once depleted farmland, it was planted with thousands of pine, spruce, larch, maple, ash, cherry, and oak seedlings. Today it it heavily forested.
Sitting above 1,800 feet in elevation, the network of trails are well suited for winter fun. And, it’s a busy place all winter long—heavily used by Cayuga Nordic Ski Club, Cornell Nordic Ski Team, and many others. A snowmobile trail (marked green) and the Finger Lakes hiking trail (white blazed) cross the forest.
