Additionally, there will be terrific photo opportunities during the Tot Trot for the tiny tykes. All four events will be happening on Sunday, April 24 in picturesque, historic Groton Center. These are outstanding races and children?s events; they are exceptionally runner and walker-friendly, whether you are an experienced competitor, a mid pack runner, or a beginner.
Frequently Asked & Answered Questions (FAQs):
Do I get a free t-shirt?
All runners (Tots, 2K, 5K, 10K) receive a free t-shirt if we receive your registration by 4/9/05. If your on-line or postmarked entry is after that date, you can get a shirt on a first come, first serve basis. Sizes are not guaranteed after 4/9/05. We urge you to register early to guarantee a shirt-don't be disappointed!
When does registration close?
Remember, there is no race date registration. On-line registration closes at 5 pm on Friday, April 22nd. You can register in person on Saturday, April 23rd between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Groton-Dunstable Middle School.
Where and when do I pick up my race number?
You have two options:
You can pick up your race number on Saturday, April 23rd from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Groton-Dunstable Middle School.
You can pick up your race number prior to the race on Sunday, April 24th starting at 9 a.m.
Will I receive any confirmation once I register?
If you've registered online you will receive a confirmation email. Please print out your receipt and bring it when you pick up your race number. If you register by mail you will not receive a confirmation. You can email grotonroadrace@yahoo.com to confirm receipt.
What happens if for some reason I cannot run the race?
Groton Road Race does not offer refunds or permit name changes to an entry.
Will the race be cancelled for any reason?
In our 13-year history we've never cancelled the race. It will be run rain or shine, unless there is an event such as Act of God or the Town of Groton deems it unsafe. The race committee will take under advisement rescheduling or offering refunds after that time.
What if I wish to change from the 5K to the 10K or the reverse?
You can run either race without penalty or additional entry fees. You do not need to notify race organizers that you're switching events.
What if I register for either the 5K or 10K and want to change to the 2K?
No problem, you don't need to change your number or registration fee. But, we absolutely MUST have your ChampionChip back. If you do not return the chip, you may incur a charge of up to $50 from the timing company. The 2K is a self-timed event.
Can I run both the 5K and 10K?
Yes, you can, but you'll need to register for each event. Your ChampionChip is programmed for only one race and your results will not be captured if you wear it for the 10K also.
During the 5K and 10K, will my family be able to see me out on the course?
Both race courses are closed to traffic (new in 2004). If your family wants to see you during the race, they should get into position before the race starts.
My family will be with me. What events can my children participate in?
There is a Tots' Trot and 2K for children. Toddlers up to 6 years old can run in the Tots' Trot and children of all ages can run in the 2K. The Tots' Trot has a limit of 400 children and it fills to capacity each year.
How many water stations will there be?
In the 5K there will be a water stop at approximately the 2 mile mark. The 10K will have water at the 2 and 4 mile marks. The 2K has water at the finish line.
What if I can't finish the race?
There will be support vehicles on the course for any medical emergencies.
What will the weather be like?
Temperatures are typically in the 40s to 50s in late April. But, New England weather is known for its unpredictability so be prepared for anything! We haven't had any snow in the race's 14 year history.
Can I wear headphones during the race?
For insurance and safety reasons, we ask that you leave your headphones, CD players and MP3s at home for use during your training runs.
Can I push a stroller or run with my dog during the race?
For insurance and safety reasons, both for yourself and other runners, please do not bring strollers or dogs onto the race course.
