I discovered Fort Massac State Park while staying in Bowling Green, Kentucky, just across the Ohio River. The park hosts high school cross-country meets in the fall, so I was able to follow the course for my run. The park offers a one mile trail/grass loop near the recontructed fort and campgraounds and a 2.5 mile trail on the eastern end of the park. (Hickory Nut Ridge Trail) I also found a gravel road that seemed to go a long way, but I didn't have the time to completely explore that part of the park. I was lucky to visit the park on a beautiful fall day and the views of the river were great. It was a perfect place for me to do an easy run on soft surfaces. Definitely stop by and explore the recontructed Fort Massac before you leave the park!

From Kentucky, go north on I-24, across the Ohio River, and take Exit 37. Go left/west and the park is about 2 miles down the road on the left side. From Illinois, go south on I-24 and take Exit 37. Go right/west.
