This wonderful run is located within the Great Smokey Mountains National Park and is run entirely on road. The road can get very crowded (even outside of the peak fall colors weekends), but there is plenty of room to share with automobiles. The best news for runners is that the road is closed to autos on Wednesday and Saturday mornings until 10:00 a.m. from early May through late September to allow bicyclists and runners a chance to peacefully enjoy the cove.
Facilities can be found at the Cable Mill's visitor center which is located approximately mid-point of the 11-mile, one-way Cades Cove Loop Road.
Be ready to enjoy some very beautiful scenery, historic buildings and wildlife along the roadside - definitely deer and squirrels and maybe turkey, raccoons or a bear.
There are other trails within the cove that are open to runners and may give you an option to make your run longer or shorter than the 11 mile paved road loop.
The park is located approximately 40 miles south of Knoxville, Tennessee in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. Get more information by visiting their website at http://www.nps.gov/grsm/ or (865) 436-1200 for recorded visitor information.
