I would like some information about the rim to rim to rim. I have already run the south rim to canyon to south rim. I wanted to know any information that you might have. Do you know if there is water at Phantom Ranch, any places on the NORTH Kaibab and the North Rim. Also, do you know when the north rim and trails close. Looking at possible going in the beginning of Oct if weather permits.
Early October can be a good time to go. There is plenty of water along the way. There is water at Phantom Ranch and (I think) 3 other places on the Kaibab Trail.
The North Rim at the Grand Canyon usually closes after the 2nd weekend in October every year. That is typically when they shut off water to the North Rim.
I just did a Rim to Rim hike yesterday. Currenlty there is was at Supai Tunnel (2 mi from top) and Cottonwood Camproung (7miles from top and also 7 miles from river). You shouldn't need any more than that. If the water is already shut off the first 8 miles of the trail (from the river) run along a creek, you can either drink is straight or bring a filter.
North Rim is still open (open late this year). Taps are off from Cottonwood CG all the way up to the North Rim. Last I heard, water is only on at Indian Gardens, Bright Angel, and Phantom Ranch. Planning to head down over Thanksgiving to do a R2R plus a little extra (maybe to Cottonwood and back).
