I have been wanting to do this for a while for really no other reason than my wife and father-in-law has run it before. I really didn't have any interest in running road marathons until I ran a Boston qualifier with my wife so she could qualify. She did, but I didn't. 3:10 is a tough time to make without dedicated training.
In my opinion, you've got to do a LOT of hills before racing Boston. I'd gotten used to flat training that I did for my flat qualifoer (JAcksonville Marathon), so with my over-confidence I went out to fast on the hills the first half of Boston. Ouch! What a hard race!
