My first exposure to ultra running was this distance. Actually, it was a 12 hour race on a track - definitely not something I would recommend to someone just starting out in ultras. I would suggest picking a nice trail race with great support/aid.
I just ran my first one and I will tell you to research your course. I chose Squaw Peak 50 which is rated the 3rd most difficult in America. I am happy I chose it, but am not sure it would be for everyone! You can do it, keep it up!
