I started running when I was a sophomore in college as I had gained the "Freshman 20"! I literally put on some shoes and started running around the block. I had never participated in sports and had no clue how to train, but I continued my neighborhood runs and eventually graduated to running 5k's. I remember running my first 5k in 30 minutes and thinking that I was fast. Yeah, right! Thankfully my spirits stayed high, I kept running and have become faster.

I moved to Boulder in 1997 and decided it was time to venture over to longer races. I met some girls and we trained for the Steamboat Half Marathon. I felt so proud and finally had a glimpse into what it felt like to be a "runner". I'm not a hard core runner by any means; however, I have enjoyed the Steamboat race and will be there again this year making it my 4th time. Last year I ran it 5 months after giving birth. What a nightmare!!! I credit my friend, Jen, who got me to the finish line.

Not only has running kept me healthy but it has introduced me to some phenomenal women. There is no better place to forge a friendship then when you are out on the trails.
