I'm actually a rather new runner. I was one of those people who HATED to work out, but I found myself getting rather... er.. plump and needed to do something about it. Hubby and I bought our first house in August, and I couldn't afford a gym membership. The only thing that I could afford was the pair of sneakers that I already owned. I started walking through our new (and rather mountainous) neighborhood, but that took too long, so I started trying to run bits of it. I really could only make it from one mailbox to the next, but I've come a long way since then.
I didn't really run through the winter since the cold air made me wheeze and I'd finally gotten enough money together for a gym membership. I took a lot of group fitness classes through the winter, and I think spinning especially helped my endurance to complete longer runs without needing to walk again.
I'm running the first race of my life at the end of April, the Runners World half marathon. Training is going really well so far, from the opinion of someone who has just started running. I am running about 9:20/mile on my longer runs, so I'm pleased with that time, although I'd like to improve it... so I guess that brings me to my goals...
