This 6.5 mile trail is basically a circumnavigation of White Rock or the White Rock Hills. Park at either the White Rock trailhead or the Willow Springs trailhead. If you are going to do just this trail, the parking at White Rock might be easier. Along this scenic trail you will find cacti, Joshua treess, an the occaisional wildflowers (depending on time of year) There are also petrogliphs at one point. Don't miss this trail, its worth the time!

There are two ways to get to Red Rock Canyon.
The most common route is to take Charleston Blvd. west until you get there. From Charleston Blvd. and Interstate 15, it is about 15 miles due west.

The other way to get there is more efficient if you are departing from the far south end of Las Vegas, from Hendeson , or you want to go to Blue Diamond first.

From Las Vegas, drive south on any of the major streets such as Decatur Blvd. and Rainbow Blvd., or drive south on Interstate 15. These will take you to Highway 160, better known locally as Blue Diamond Road. When you get to Blue Diamond Road, turn west. When you get the Blue Diamond cut-off, (Highway 159), turn north. The intersection is well marked and you should keep your eye out for it after about 10 to 15 miles, depending on where you started from.

Trail map available at visitor center.

I run this trail everytime I go to Las Vegas. It's a little higher in elevation than the Strip; the low point on the loop is about 5000' and the high point is about 6000'; or so I'm told. I usually run it counter-clockwise starting at the cooking mounds. I have run it from the picnic area down the hill, but that's the low point, so either way you have to grind up about 900' at the start of the run. The cooking mounds are probably halfway up in elevation, so you only have to climb the first mile and a half or so before a nice long downhill, then another mile or more climb back to the parking lot.
