Porter Rockwell Trail is located in Draper City, a southern suburb of Salt Lake, just off I-15 and south of Sandy and the canyon entrances. The trail begins at approx 1300 East Pioneer Rd (12600 South), and ends at approx 14000 South. The trail is approx 3.5 miles long and is great for jogging, walking, biking and even has an equestrian trail (on the outside of the rail tracks).
Mile markers beginning with the yellow 3 mi marker are off by nearly 1/10 of a mile (short). Prior to that they are much closer to being accurate.
Green painted numbers every 1/10 mi are almost dead on (plus or minus a few steps). Problem is they don't go completely end to end and are hard to see in the dark.
The northern terminus of the trail at Draper City Park is located at 1300 East 12400 South. Exit I-15 at Draper Parkway (12300 South) and head east, towards the mountains. Turn right (south) on Aspen Ridge Road, 1300 East, and go two blocks. Draper City Park (northern terminus for the trail) is on your right.

This is a great running, dog-walking trail. It's perfect for running or walking with a stroller. I run it frequently and never have problems with too many people. I wouldn't use this trail for "hiking" as it's classified on this site. It's flat, paved and not that pretty. With all the great trails close by, this fails in comparison. If looking for a close by hike, try Draper Bonneville Shoreline Trail.
