This is a nice run that starts at the Temple Quarry trailhead parking lot at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon. The trail starts at the east end of the parking lot. At mile 0.6 you will hit a short section of pavement through a developed neighborhood. Keep your eyes open for the small wooden signs that mark the trail. Continue past the water facility, and around the gate. At mile 1.0 you will cross a bridge. At mile 2.71 (just passed the Y-coulior) you will see a fork heading up to the left that will take you to the paved highway, but you continue straight for about a 0.5 miles more until the trail ends at the creek. You will see the remains of an old building across the way.

(GPS N 40? 34.231' W 111? 43.024') Marks the end of the trail.

It is a pleasant, tree covered trail, that varies in steepness, but is uphill the entire way.

Beware of mtn. bikers coming back down, or just put a stick in their spokes. (I bike the trail, too.)

Dogs are not allowed on this trail as it is a watershed area.

The trail starts at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon. Get there however you want. If it is earlier in the year (i.e. as of this posting on 5/12/05) you will have to park across the street in the park & ride lot and carefully cross the highway (don't get squished). The same is true early in the morning all year. I believe the gate opens around 8 am. Walk right passed the base of the electric sign, up canyon and you will run into the Temple Quarry trailhead parking lot.

This would be a great run if it wasn't for the Mtn Bikes. Some are really careless and going way too fast. I've seen a few close calls. The trail picks-up again further west, opposite the La Cai entrance, and drops you back out at the top of Newcastle. I use to park over at Flat Iron Park and make a big loop. Head east on Newcastle, take the trail to Wasatch Blvd., So. on Wasatch, then turn E. on 210. Run the Temple Stone Trail, and return down 10000 S. and up through Falcon Park and back to Flat Iron. This run is best done in the morning before the MTBs get on the trail.

Does anyone know anything about the mysterious "ruin" at the end of the Little Cottonwood Trail? Who built it? When? How? Why there?
