All day run starts at the Adirondak Loj on Heart Lake near Lake Placid, NY. From Heart Lake you run to the center of Indian Pass. The trail is easy for 5 miles. At the site of an old dam, you can take the low water route and save some time and climbing but it's hard to find. See photo. Then you must scramble up giant bolders to reach the Pass. A sight you will never forget. Vertical cliffs on each side extend 1,000 feet or more on either side. Truly the land of the lost. The highest vertical in NYS. Backtrack to the cross trail to Algonquin Mountain east to Avalanch Pass. Head up Algonquin via the southeast trail head and down the other side heading north back to Heart Lake.
Specific Trail directions intentionally ommitted in this description. Runners MUST carry map, compass, safety gear and research trail prior to attempting such a run. People get lost and die here on occasion, so be prepared!! Bring plenty of fluids and water treatment.Take Rt 73 east out of Lake Placid towards Mt. Van Hovenburg. Rt. of CR34 in town of N. Elba. Take CR34 until it ends at the gate to Adirondak Loj and the trail head. There is a fee to park. An evening at the loj is most enjoyable. A bunk dinner and breakfast will set you back less that $50 and is worth every penny after a long run. The food is excellent... at least it seems that way at the end of a long day.

Great off road option in LP. Thanks for posting the original. Although I didn't run the entire trail, the section I ran was fantastic. Technical enough to remind you, you are running in the Adirondacks but at the same time, able to keep a good stride.
