This is a great mostly-flat trail run for early mornings or late afternoons. My preference is early mornings. You start running directly west with beautiful views of the sun hitting the Flatirons and Eldorado canyon. But then again, you can't go wrong with afternoons. This is a great place to enjoy the colorful Boulder sunsets.
The trail can be run clockwise or counter-clockwise. Counter-clockwise is easier for directions so that is what I will use in this description.
Start at the Flatirons Vista Trailhead. Go through the gate and directly up the hill. The trail becomes a gravel road, and you will run west on this for approximately 1 mile. Immediately before the second Open Space gate, turn left on a faint trail that parallels a fence line. Run south on this trail through ponderosa pines for approximately another .75 to 1 mile. When you reach a fence corner, turn left (east) and follow that fenceline for approximately .5 miles until you reach another fence corner with a gate. Go through the gate, and trend northeast back towards your car. Run this trail all the way back passing a small pond just before you reach the trailhead parking.
From Boulder, drive south on Broadway (Hwy. 93) for a few miles. Look for the Flatirons Vista Trailhead on your right approximately .25 miles past the Hwy 93/Hwy 128 intersection.
From Golden, drive north on Hwy. 93 towards Boulder. Approximately 1 mile after crossing into Boulder County, look for the Flatirons Vista Trailhead on your left. If you get to Hwy. 128 intersection, you have gone .25 miles too far.
