This route follows the Chesepeake and Delaware canal, very easy and enjoyable run along the water. The trail is completely flat. Since part of the trail is in Delaware and part is in Maryland, you can run the length of the trail and impress your friends by saying you ran accross two states!! :-)

Trailhead Directions From Elkton:
Drive east on U.S. 40, entering Delaware and turning right (south) on DE 72 after 6.0 miles. Go 3.8 miles and turn right (south) on U.S. 13 and 301. Cross the C&D Canal on the high level Saint Georges Bridge. On the south side, turn right at the first opportunity onto Road 34C into the hamlet of South Saint Georges (2.2 miles from where you first picked up U.S. 13 and 301). Road 34C circles under the bridge and, after 0.3 mile, comes to Road 34B; turn left. Follow Road 34B 0.4 mile to where it ends overlooking the C&D. Turn right onto a paved street and drive close to where it intersects with the dirt service road along the canal. Park the first car along the shoulder of the paved street.

Drive the second car back to U.S. 13 and 301 and turn right (south). After 3.0 miles, the highways split; keep right on U.S. 301 and DE 896. In 3.5 miles, you will come upon a major intersection in the little village of Mount Pleasant. U.S. 301 goes to the left and DE 896 turns right; DE 71 goes both left and right. Continue straight (west) onto Road 432, leaving the federal and state highways behind.

Go through a crossroads and enter Maryland after 3.6 miles; the road becomes MD 310. Drive for only 0.1 mile and then turn right onto Old Telegraph Road. Follow this road for 2.7 miles, pass a crossroads, and arrive at Bethel Cemetery on the right just before dead ending at the canal.

Park your car along the entrance drive to the cemetery, being careful not to block access.
