The North Salt Lake City section of the Bonneville Shorline Trail features a nice 7 mile point-to-point section of this route easily accessible from Salt Lake City.
The trail begins on Bonneville Drive just east of the City Creek Canyon road (directions below)- park at trailhead. The trail climbs quickly, 650 vertical feet over the first mile. 3 miles into the run you'll reach the divide above City Creek Canyon. Total elevation gain is 1250 feet.
The Bonneville Shoreline Trail is a ninety-mile long pedestrian and bicycle path which is being built across the foothills of the Wasatch Range along a route that follows the eastern shoreline of ancient Lake Bonneville. For more information about this entire trail, see the website:

Or, if you wish to start at 'This is the Place'/Sunnyside Avenue:
From Foothill Blvd, turn east on Sunnyside Avenue. Park near This is the Place monument and find the trailhead on Sunnyside Avenue.
