About 6.0 miles one-way. All other info for west to east traverse: 1515 feet in altitude gain in first 4 miles; 700 feet altitude loss in last 2 miles. At about 4 miles you cross over Baylor Pass and gain a view of Mesilla Valley (Las Cruces and Rio Grande) and Tularodsa Valley (White Sands Missile Range, White Sands National Monument, Sacramento Escarpment and Sierra Blanca, highest mountain in Southern NM, at 12,000 ft.)

The trail is a combination of sand, clay, and rocky trail. The terrain is desert and high desert with small trees, cacti, and related flora. Deer may be seen, and currently there may be mountain lions, also. Weather may vary from incredibly hot (summer) to blowing snow (winter). Fall and spring are optimum. No water available, bring your own.
