I've tried this once. Basically the route starts on the ridge above Green Mountain Reservoir near Kremmling and traverses the Continental Divide all the way to Vail Pass.

The goal was to complete the entire Gore Range in a single push. The initial rules were quite lofty: 1) you had to summit every peak along the route, 2) you could at no time (other than retreat from a storm) drop more than 200ft below the ridgeline, and 3) it had to be done in a single unaided push. Next time I'll pick something a bit more realistic like picking the major summits along the route instead of every friggin' gendarme.

Our first attempt was stopped short after approximately 13 miles of ridge and thousands of feet of climbing and descending. There was a good bail point that took us to Piney River Ranch, and then we hitched a ride back to Vail Pass.

I can't remember exactly but we used a topo mapping software and found the entire route to be approximately 44 miles and 57,000ft of climbing.
