Here's a short loop run to do when you have a limited amount of time and don't mind a paved trail. It's surprisingly quiet in the undeveloped business park, and of course the only time to run here in the summer is at sunrise. :) Be prepared for the non-stop sweats when you get finished with this one!
Although short, you can add another couple of miles of sidewalk running through cotton fields and residential areas to the SE as detailed in peach on the attached map, going either direction and taking the shortcut indicated if you're so inclined. The trail is mostly flat and paved almost the entire way, so it's fine if you don't want to get your shoes dirty. It's also very convenient to several popular hotels near the Research Park, so you don't have to drive a ways to find someplace away from the city traffic and noise.
From Birmingham and points south, take 65 north to the 565 Huntsville exit (from Nashville take I65 south), to the Research Park Blvd. north exit (exit 14).
Follow Research Park Blvd. North from I565 for approximately 4 miles to the Hwy 72 W (University Drive West) exit, and go through 3 traffic lights (Perimeter Parkway, Enterprise Way, & Waddell Dr). Turn left (south) into West Park (entrance is between Barrow's Furniture and Huntsville Dodge). You will hit the loop in a T intersection. Park most conveniently at the Residence Inn or Days Inn at the east end of the loop.
