The "Tour of Rockingham, NC" is a 6.3 mile loop along paved streets in the historical district as described in detail below and on the town map. The first half of the course has several steep hills that will be increasingly challenging as the pace increases. The last half of the run is more gentle and faster.

The run starts and finishes at Harrington Square in downtown Rockingham at the corners of N. Lee and N. Washington Streets (0.0 miles) and proceeds as follows:

Driving south on US 1, continue straight on E. Washington St. at the Fidelity Bank Building instead of following US 1 left. After one block bear right one way around the square to the BB&T bank parking lot.

Driving north on US 1, turn right (one way) on E. Franklin St. at the top of the hill. Turn left at the next street (S. Lawrence) and again left at the next street (E. Washington). Follow E. Washington to Harrington Square as described above.

Several local runners meet every Tuesday evening at 6:30 PM - rain, shine or hurricane- to run this course. Their ages range from 17 yrs. to 66+ yrs. Both males and females are present but most runners are men. Most of the runners are also members of the local Mangum Track Club (visit web site: "mangumtc.org") but visitors are quite welcome.

The hill on Biggs Blvd. is short but gets my heart rate and lung stess toward maximum.

I use this run as a tempo run when training for a race or just enjoy the company of the other runners when training for fitness.
