Don?t miss this fun, philanthropic event! The Sunny Gunny Runs benefit the GAC?s free summer arts program for kids and Gunnison?s youth mentoring program (Partners). The 5-Mile Run will take participants around the WSC Campus and through the residential streets of Gunnison. The 1-Mile Elite Run will take participants right down the center of town on Gunnison?s Main Street. Join us for the post race events, featuring some kickin? bluegrass music by ?Sweet Sunny South,? beer, food, kids activities and much more!
2005 is the premiere year of the Sunny Gunny Run for Partners and the Arts. Race-day registration and packet pick-up is available beginning at 7 am at Oddfellows Park (100 Block of East Virginia Avenue). The 5-Mile Run begins at 9 am. The 1 Mile Elite Run begins at 11 am. Awards for the 5-Mile (1st, 2nd & 3rd) will be given by gender in the following age categories: 14 & under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 & up. Overall 1-Mile Elite Run winners will receive $200 cash (1 male/1 female) and 2nd and 3rd place men/women will receive medals. The awards ceremony and post-race events & entertainment will begin at Noon in Jorgensen Park (along Highway 50 in Gunnison).
Can?t participate but want to help? The unique aspect of this run is that even non-runners may participate and contribute as "Sleepers" in the spirit of philanthropy and charity. "Sleepers" will register as race participants, pay the registration fee of $25 (add $5 after May 7th), and won't actually race. They'll receive all of the goodies that racers received and the three "Sleepers" who give the most beyond the registration fee will win "Sleeper" philanthropist medals.
5-Mile and 1-Mile Check-in at Oddfellows Park (the intersection of Highway 135 (MAIN STREET) and VIRGINIA AVENUE ~ Downtown Gunnison.
5-Mile Start Point: Just beyond Oddfellows Park at the intersection of Iowa and East Virginia Avenue.
1-Mile Start Point: Clark Boulevard, just North of Gunnison on Highway 135
Post Race Event: Jorgensen Park, adjacent to Highway 50 (east) ~ you can't miss it - it's a giant park with a pond, fountain, a gazebo and a giant shade structure.
