More than 9,000 local runners from throughout Chicago?s diverse neighborhoods and suburbs are gearing up to participate in the 9th Annual Chicago Half Marathon. Ranked among the Top 10 half marathons in the country, the Chicago Half has always dedicated itself to putting a Chicago face on running. The emphasis is not on bringing in elite runners from around the globe, but focusing on Chicago runners and running clubs, their friends and families. Race Director Susan Nicholl states, ?Everyone runs for his or her own unique reason. We bring out the best in all Chicagoans, tell their stories and share their experiences.? The Chicago Half will serve as the USA Track and Field State Championship. It is the oldest Half Marathon in Chicago?running 13.1 miles along scenic South Lake Shore Drive, with the start and finish at the historic Museum of Science and Industry.
To showcase the cultural tapestry that is uniquely Chicago, there will be lively musical entertainment from local ethnic bands along the course. Post race atmosphere will include massages for all runners, our annual KidsFest at the Museum of Science and Industry, featuring Radio Disney and the Jesse White Tumblers, and culminate with a free post race concert by Little Feat in Jackson Park, right behind the museum. Online registration for the 2005 Chicago Half Marathon is still open at www.chicagohalfmarathon.com or at the two-day Race Weekend Expo at the Palmer House Hilton Hotel.
