This is the short course (and second loop) of the Soulstice Mountain Trail Run hosted by the Northern Arizona Trail Runner's association on the third Saturday in October. The run begins at the Sunset Trailhead and immediately climbs 900 feet over the first 2 miles. Turn right and follow Upper Brookbank (a gnarly single track with sweeping vistas of the San Francisco Peaks) to Lower Brookbank. At Lower Brookbank hang a right and make a short pitch up to Dry Lake Hills. Cross the meadow and bear to the right and head down Little Gnarly (road behind tank). Heading down Little Gnarly, bear left at next trail junction. This will take you to Schultz Creek Trail (Lincoln Logs). Make a right and head uphill for about a half-mile to return to your car.
Drive north out of Flagstaff on US 180 to FR 420 (Schultz Pass Road - Just past Museum of Northern Arizona) Drive 6 miles east on FR 420 (bear to left at Elden lookout road) to the trailhead at a parking lot on the south side of the road.
