Squaw Peak is rated as the 3rd toughest 50 miler in the country with 10,000 feet elevation gain and loss (alt. low 4900' / high 9300')
A beautiful and scenic but very difficult loop course through the Wasatch Mountains above Provo. 43% trails, 39% dirt roads, 18% paved trails and road. 3 Major Climbs. 10,000 ft elev. gain/loss. Altitude varies from 4900 ft to 9300 ft. 9 1/2 hour time limit at mile 33. (After heavy snow years there are a couple of spots which have some steep exposure).10 well stocked Aid Stations. Drops bags and pacers OK. Great Pre and post Race dinners. Hand carved stone sculptures by the Navajo Indians for overall Awards. Plus age group awards. Limited to first 220 entrants. NO ENTRIES ACCEPTED AFTER MAY 14 POSTMARK.
The start and finish point is located at in Vivian Park, Provo Canyon, UT. The park is located in Provo Canyon, 5.9 miles from the mouth of the canyon. This is the Junction of US 189 (University Ave.) and 800 North in Orem. To get there from the North take the 800 N exit in Orem and head East to the mouth of the canyon about 4 miles. Coming from the South take the University exit, US 189. This takes you straight up to the Mouth of Provo Canyon, about 6 miles. Then proceed up the canyon.
