Run south from the Bobolink Trailhead on the South Boulder Creek Trail. Well, it is more of a paved and gravel bike path than a trail, but a great run no less. Another option is to catch the trail on the south end at Marshall Road and run north.
These directions will be for starting at the Bobolink Trailhead. For the first .6 miles a dirt path paralles the paved section. This is a nice alternative because it runs along the creek and there are no bikes allowed. After .6 miles the paths re-join and one forks off west to the East Boulder Recreation Center. Continue running along the South Boulder Creek Trail which is now gravel for another .9 miles where it will go under South Boulder Road and then turn west.
After another .2 miles, turn left thru a gate to continue on the South Boulder Creek Trail. Note: dogs are not allowed on this section because this section is open grazing land for many cattle. Continue along this path running generally south for another 1.8 miles along the South Boulder Creek until you get to the trailhead at Marshall Road. Now turn around and retrace your route back to your car and the Bobolink Trailhead.
If you are running this section early in the morning or late in the afternoon, keep you eyes open for wildlife. You are almost certain to see some type of wildlife including: prarrie dogs, red tailed hawks, bald eagles, mule deer, owls, bats, foxes and/or coyotes. Also take time to soak in the Front Range views. The southern most section of this trail offers some of Boulder's best views of the Flatirions and surrounding peaks.
The most popular starting place for this trail is the Bobolink Trailhead. One of the quickest ways to get there is to take Baseline Road east of Foothills Parkway (Hwy. 157) for approximately 1 mile. The Bobolink Trailhead is on your right just before the T-intersection of Baseline Road and Cherryvale Road.
If you are in South Boulder, you can also start at the South Boulder Creek Trailhead East on Marshall Road. This trailhead is approximately .5 miles south of Boulder (after leaving city limits) off of Broadway (Hwy. 93). Take the first left after you leave the city limits of Boulder. This is Marshall Road. The trailhead will be obvious.
