South Boulder Creek takes on a very different appearance once it leaves the mountains. From the mouth of Eldorado Canyon to the confluence with Middle Boulder Creek, this section of the creek is much wider and shallower.
The fish (mostly brown trout) get quite a bit smaller as the river flows on. The best way to fish this section is walk the bank and look for the big rocks and pools - especially as summer rolls on and the flows lessen. As a matter of fact it can get quite hard as the fish sppok easier when they are holed up in a smaller area. Most people drive right past this water on their way to other fishing places, but if you are in the area and want to beat the crowds why not.
You can get fishing access for this section of the creek at either the Mesa Trail Trailhead off Eldorado Springs Drive or either of the South Boulder Creek Trailheads just off Hwy 93 (about 2 miles south of Boulder).
