This is a great short distance run for beginners - you start right in front of the Firehouse in Kamehameha Highway. There is a bike path that goes alongside the road, starting in Sharks Cove and going all the way past Sunset Beach. Most ot the path is shaded, so even in Summertime this is a great place to run.

As you go along, the views are simply spectacular! Sunset Beach is of course breathtakingly beautiful, and almost always you get a breeze as you pass by. I've done this run in the Summer and Winter.

When training for longer distances, simply do the route again - at the very end of the bike path there is a place called "Ted's Bakery", famous for their cream pies that sell all over the island. Of course, if you've been good, ran hard enough, there will be no problem rewarding yourself with their goodies... :-)
(their capuccino is pretty good too)

Go to Kamehameha Highway 59-720. You will be at a grocery store called Foodland. Across the street from it is the Firehouse.

Look North and you will see a bike path on that side of the highway - simply start your run there, it will go straight for 2.7 miles, no hills, sometimes it takes you closer to the beach, sometimes off on the road. Only a small stretch of 0.15 miles is right next to the highway, but still safe because it's a well marked two-lane bike path.

You can park your car in Foodland's parking place or in the parking place right next to the entrance of the bike path. Lots of people run, jog, or bike there, but it's never too crowded, except when a load of tourists gets "unloaded" on Sunset Beach... they tend to stand in the middle of the path and stare at the beach. I don t blame them...

This run goes along the famous surfing beaches of North Shore Hawaii. Sunset Beach and the Banzai Pipeline are awesome as you cruise beside them, so beautiful that you can barely concentrate on the path. One spectacular view after another on a totally relaxing run.
