I ran this race as a tune-up/qualifier for the Bolder Boulder this year. It's a smaller race held on some trails and roads around the large Westminster Park near 104th and Highway 36.
The weather this year was interesting. It was a little cold and the day after a large snow, so the trail was wet and muddy in places, but in others, wasn't too bad.
The race starts with a short, flat section and then climbs a significant hill. Hills at the start of a race are tough because to be competitive, you really have to run them faster than you'd like to. At least I do. So at the first mile, I was already at my limit, but you get a long downhill section to recover. After that, it is pretty much small, rolling hills around the pond and park.
There were lots of great spectators out for a race of this size and considering the horrible weather, well, the fans couldn't have been any better.
Post race, there are tons of volunteers and great food. What great organization for a post race feast. Breakfast burritos, bagels, fruit, I can't remember what else, but you couldn't go hungry. It's nice to see the students come out and support the event.
Is it just me, or do smaller races usually have better post race food and more volunteers?
I was really impressed.
