This route to the Jefferson Memorial and back runs along Rock Creek Parkway and the Potomac River with a loop around the Tidal Basin.
You can turn around at any point before the Jefferson Memorial to make it shorter, and forego the loop, and the loop can be done in either direction.
From the start at 23rd and P Streets, run SW on the Rock Creek Parkway path and continue south along the Potomac River past the Lincoln Memorial (1.77 miles) and the Arlington Memorial Bridge. You'll continue running south along the shore next to Ohio Drive on West Potomac Park to the bridge that covers the opening of Tidal Basin to the Potomac (1.1 miles). Turn left and run along the shoreline trail of Tidal Basin, in front of the Jefferson Memorial, and continue counterclockwise until you reach the bridge crossing the northern reach of the Basin. Take the bridge back towards the Lincoln Memorial as it becomes Independence Avenue. From the Lincoln Memorial (1.77 more miles) run back north on the Rock Creek path the final 1.77 miles to the finish at 23rd and P.
Start at 23rd and P Street, 4 blocks west of Dupont Circle (the nearest subway stop).
