Playa Balandra is a beautiful beach on the Sea of Cortez just a few kilometers northeast of La Paz. It is one of the last beaches you come across when you are driving along the Peninsula de Pichilingue, and it is one of the best. Depending on the tide levels there can be more than one beach. At low tides the bay opens up to many small beaches (or islands) that are easily accessed by knee to waist deep water.

There are barbeque grills and umbrellas for use along the main beach. It is quite nice and thus quite popular with the locals on the weekends. Camping is permitted, but the lack of a breeze on this beach might mean more bugs - 3k further has better campgrounds at Playa El Tecolote.

Directions

Take the oceanfront road (Highway 11) through downtown and drive northeast out of town. Around 17KM you pass the ferry terminal (for mainland Mexico). Continue a approximately 5KM further to a fork in the road. Take the left fork and drive a few hundred meters to the beach and parking area.
