This surf spot is just 10km south of Tamarindo by the beach or 15km by road. It is a good place to get away from the crowds. The waves are no bigger than those at Playa Tamarindo, but they are faster and break closer to the beach making them a bit more technical making for shorter rides and greater chances of broken boards. There are some rocks at the north end of the break. However, it is still a great area.
Directions
Head down the beach south from Playa Tamarindo. If you are coming by car, take the paved highway from Santa Cruz to Paraiso. Then follow signs or ask locals. The last section is on and unimproved road.
There are a few amenities there like beer and food but little else.
Just a few more kilometers south is Playa Negra. There are plenty of rocks at Playa Negra to keep things exciting and even fewer crowds.
