Pinnacle Peak is a great training run. It starts up to the peak then down the mountain to the end of trail. Turn around and go back up then finish downhill with kick at the end. Downhill turns are tricky so be careful. Path is well groomed and maintained and there is water and clean, air conditioned restrooms. Attendants are on duty, park is open from dawn to dusk. View of mountains and luxury homes is awesome.
101 to Princess/Pima Highway. North on Pima to Happy Valley. East on Happy Valley to Alma School. North on Alma School and follow signs to parking lot. If lot is full, you can park on the street.

This is can be out and back run. You start uphill, reach the peak then downhill to the other side. You can repeat the hill run back or follow the road back to the trailhead which is flat but longer than 2 miles back.

Today I did this run for the first time and I had a ball. I'm here visiting from the flatlands -- Chicago -- so I was a little concerned when my friend said we were going to do Pinnacle Peak and run much of it. But what a blast! It was one of the prettiest trail runs in the area. We fast walked much of the ups, and ran all of the downs and it was a great workout. As a bonus, the people that were working back at the trailhead were just as friendly and nice as could be. All this PLUS clean restrooms! I give this trail an A+.
