This trail is a great hill workout, 5 miles up to Pine Creek lake with a gain of 3000'!!! The effort is worth the views of Yellowstone River Valley and the nice waterfalls along the way.
Take the trailhead out of the Pine Creek campground. The reward at the end of the climb is a beautiful alpine lake below rugged mountain peaks. Go early; the trail is heavily used on the weekend.
Take I-90 to Livingston, turn south on Highway 89 towards Yellowstone National Park. Go about 10 miles, and take a left on Pine Creek Road. Cross the Yellowstone river bridge and take a right at the T. Less than a mile, take a left at the Pine Creek campground access. Follow the road up to the recently remodeled trailhead/campground/picnic area.
