The ski trail follows the Peru Creek Road up the Peru Creek drainage to Horseshoe Basin. After .5 miles, Morgan Peak comes into view on the right and soon thereafter the snowcapped top of Cooper Mountain is visible to your left across the valley. Another mile further on you can see the Pennsylvania Mine to your right. Travel another mile to the Argentine Pass Trailhead on your right and Peruvian Mine will be seen to your left. The trail then continues up into Horseshoe Basin and then curves around to the west to an unnamed lake at the foot of a Colorado 14er . . . Gray's Peak. This trail is intersected by potentially dangerous avalanche paths. Please be careful!
The first 3 miles (Montezuma Road to Argentine Pass Trailhead), you may encounter snowmobile traffic as this is a multiple use valley.
From I-70 take Exit 205, Silverthorne / Dillon, and travel east on HWY 6 toward Keystone. Just past Keystone, turn right onto Montezuma Road (County Road 5). Follow Montezuma Road for 4.6 miles to the pull-out parking area on your left. This is the Peru Creek Road trailhead.
