This is a fun cliffs-above-the-ocean run. Perfect for early morning when the seals and pelicans are out. It is fairly flat compared to the rest of the area which is hilly. Two thirds of the run is on the road or sidewalk beginning at Pt. Fermin lighthouse, continuing down to White Oak beach area and the turn around point is on trails above the ocean cliffs. You do run through a nice neighborhood. Out on the trail you can depart for many miles more of ocean cliff trail running which is really hilly and much more difficult. If you want a nice hill challenge... run up Anchovy St. You'll find it along Paseo Del Mar Ave. If you don't know the area then run back down Anchovy and meet up at the bottom with Paseo Del Mar back to your starting point.
Begin at Pt. Fermin lighthouse in San Pedro. From the parking lot run west along the sidewalk. The sidewalk will eventually turn into Paseo Del Mar. Stay on Paseo Del Mar until you can go no further. There will be a chain link gate on the south side. Go in the gate and follow the dirt trail out towards the ocean. Run in front of the Mobile home park and out towards the open area. You'll see a bench. Run towards it. Return the opposite way you came.
