The boardwalk at Mission Beach offers the best people watching in all of San Diego, and a good place to run. So, don't come here expecting to have the place all to yourself.

The boardwalk runs north and south for about 2.8 miles along the ocean. An out-an-back will get you about 5.6 miles of running. The run officially starts at the Pacific Beach Drive and goes south to the end of the path at Mission Blvd.

Mission Beach has plenty of free parking just across the street from Belmont Park at West Mission Bay Drive and Mission Blvd. These parking lots can fill on summer days and weekends year round. Plan to arrive before 10 a.m. to get a good spot. Street parking is available along Mission Blvd.

If you are using public transportation, take Bus 43 or 43A to Belmont Park - look for the wooden rollercoaster. From here run towards the beach to find the boardwalk. You can't miss it.

Mission Beach is the narrow strip of land between Mission Bay and the Ocean. There is about 6 miles of "boardwalk" running the perimeter of the area. Other than being completely flat, it offers a beach view for it's entire length. The beach isn't the only thing to view since the area attracts volleyball players, surfers, skateboarders, sunbathers and a host of bodies to die for. Officially, Mission Beach starts at Pacific Beach Dr. and goes south. The boardwalk, however, extends further north into Pacific Beach til it begins to reach La Jolla. The map location in the description is for the Pacific Beach Drive start location, and the run heads south from this point.

Tuesday is Taco Tuesday at Guava Beach bar & grill, about halfway along the Mission Blvd strip a block from the beach. Guava Beach has some really decent mahi fish tacos - normally a platter with 2 is $6.75 with arroz and frijoles, but on Tuesdays the special is for ala carte, a perfect little bit of protein after a run or swim on Mission Beach. $1.50 Chicken & Beef / $2.50 Mahi & Carne Asada Tuesdays!
