A Runner's Paradise
Bald Head Island is located on the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the Cape Fear River, just two nautical miles off the southeastern coast of North Carolina. Transportation to the island is provided by passenger ferry or private yacht. The mainland ferry landing is at Indigo Plantation and Marina in Southport, approximately 30 miles south of Wilmington.
Site of Old Baldy, North Carolina's oldest lighthouse, the island is a 12-thousand acre, boat accessed residential and resort community with 14 miles of beaches, rolling dunes, freshwater lagoons, and an 800 -acre maritime forest. Approximately 10,000 acres of salt marsh, tidal creeks and maritime forest have been deeded to the State of North Carolina as a nature preserve.
With transportation on the island limited to electric golf carts and a speed limit of 18 miles per hour, the island is truly a runner's paradise.
